Vinyl siding with green mold growth and oxidation buildup

VINYL SIDING OXIDATION REMOVAL

If your siding feels chalky to the touch, regular washing won't fix it. We use a specialized treatment to restore your home's original color.

"MY VINYL SIDING IS CHALKY"

If you run your hand across the vinyl siding of your home and get a chalky, powdery white residue on your fingers -- that is oxidation.

Oxidation on vinyl siding is caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun, which break down the PVC molecular structure over time. This natural aging process results in a dull, faded, chalky, or powdery appearance on the surface.

The process is accelerated by environmental factors including high humidity, moisture, rain, and air pollutants. The biggest factor is sunlight itself -- sides of the home that receive the most direct sun will oxidize first.

The important thing to know: most soft washing is done to remove mold, mildew, dust, and dirt. Although washing will clean your home, it will not remove the oxidation. A special cleaner is required to treat and restore oxidized siding.

WHAT CAUSES OXIDATION?

Oxidation is a natural chemical process, but certain conditions accelerate it dramatically.

UV Sunlight

The primary cause. UV rays break down the PVC molecular structure over time, producing a chalky white residue on the surface.

Moisture & Rain

High humidity and repeated wet-dry cycles accelerate the breakdown of the siding's protective surface layer.

Air Pollutants

Airborne contaminants settle into the siding surface and speed up the oxidation process, especially near roads.

Natural Aging

All vinyl siding will eventually oxidize. Darker colors and south/west-facing walls are affected first and most noticeably.

OUR OXIDATION REMOVAL PROCESS

This is not a standard power wash. Our oxidation treatment uses a specialized cleaner and a dedicated process to restore your siding.

1

Assessment

We inspect all sides of your home to determine the severity of oxidation and identify which areas need treatment versus a standard wash.

2

Oxidation Treatment

A specialized oxidation-removal cleaner is sprayed directly onto the affected siding. This is not a standard soft wash solution -- it's formulated specifically to break down the chalky PVC residue.

3

Dwell & Agitation

The cleaner dwells for 15 to 20 minutes to penetrate the oxidized layer. Depending on severity, light brushing may be applied to stubborn areas.

4

Rinse & Reveal

We thoroughly rinse the treated areas, revealing the restored color underneath. The difference is dramatic -- your siding looks years younger.

THINGS TO KNOW

Oxidation is most visible on darker siding -- darker colors like blue, green, and red show the chalky white residue much more noticeably than lighter colors.

South and west-facing walls oxidize first -- these sides receive the most direct sunlight throughout the day, so they break down faster.

Washing alone will not remove oxidation -- a standard soft wash removes mold, mildew, and dirt but leaves the chalky oxidation layer untouched.

Our treatment dwells for 15-20 minutes -- the specialized cleaner needs time to chemically break down the oxidized PVC layer before it can be rinsed away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know if my siding is oxidized?

Run your hand across the siding. If you get a chalky, powdery white residue on your fingers, that's oxidation. It's most noticeable on the sides of your home that receive the most direct sunlight, and it's more visible on darker colored siding.

Will regular power washing remove oxidation?

No. Standard soft washing removes mold, mildew, dust, and dirt, and it will make your home look cleaner -- but it will not remove the oxidation itself. A specialized chemical treatment is required to restore the original color.

Which sides of the house get oxidized first?

South-facing and west-facing walls receive the most direct sunlight throughout the day and will oxidize faster than north or east-facing sides. You may notice one side of your home looking dull while the others still look fine.

Can oxidation be prevented?

It cannot be fully prevented since it is a natural aging process of PVC, but regular cleaning slows it down. Removing surface contaminants and pollutants reduces how quickly UV damage progresses.

Is this treatment safe for my siding?

Yes. The oxidation cleaner we use is specifically formulated for vinyl siding. It restores the surface without damaging the material, unlike high-pressure washing which can crack or warp vinyl.

IS YOUR SIDING CHALKY?

Send us a photo and we can tell you if it is oxidation or just surface dirt. Free assessment, no obligation.
